Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-06-01
What we store — locally, on your device only
The extension uses chrome.storage.local (your browser's local storage).
None of this is transmitted to us — we operate no backend:
- Settings — chosen AI provider, base URL, model, summary preferences, auto-save preference, download subfolder.
- Your API key — encrypted with a device-derived AES-256-GCM key before being stored. It never leaves your device except to call the AI provider you selected.
- Summary history — recent summaries and the pages they came from, kept locally so you can re-open them. You can clear this at any time via your browser.
- Usage counters — a per-day count of summaries (to enforce the free-tier limit) and the rotating-reminder state.
Clearing the extension's data (or removing the extension) deletes all of the above, including the encryption key.
What is transmitted, and to whom
- Page text → your chosen AI provider. When you summarize a page (or a selection), the extracted text is sent directly from your browser to the AI endpoint you configured — for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (Gemini), xAI (Grok), a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or a local Ollama instance. That transfer is governed by the privacy policy of the provider you chose. With local Ollama, nothing leaves your device. We never receive, log, or proxy this content — there is no QuickClip server in the path.
- Screenshots (optional feature). If you use "Screenshot & Ask AI", the captured image is sent the same way — directly to your configured vision-capable provider.
- We transmit nothing to ourselves. No analytics, no crash reporting, no tracking of any kind.
Payments
Pro subscriptions and the free trial are handled by ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which processes payments through Stripe. We never see or store your card details. ExtensionPay stores the minimal payment status (paid / trial) associated with your extension installation, which the extension reads to unlock Pro features.
Advertising
The free tier shows an in-product upgrade reminder for QuickClip Pro. This is our own message — there is no third-party ad network, no ad tracking, and no profiling.
Permissions — why each is requested
- activeTab / host access (all sites) — to read the text of the page you ask to summarize, and to inject the on-page selection toolbar, search-results card, and YouTube summarize button.
- tabs — to read the current tab's title/URL for labeling summaries and to capture the visible tab for the screenshot feature.
- storage — to save your settings, encrypted API key, history, and usage counts locally.
- downloads — to save your daily summaries as a Markdown file in your Downloads folder (optional; controlled by the Auto-Save setting).
- contextMenus — to add right-click "Summarize page / selection" entries.
- Connection to extensionpay.com — to receive payment/trial status from ExtensionPay.
